It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood

On a day like today, I think of Mr. Rodgers.  I am singing "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood".  Right now it is 55 degrees and is expected to get to 77.  Perfect weather in my book.  Lolli and I just walked 2 miles, and I feel great.  I hate to walk and I force myself to do it.  But when it is over, I am so happy.  No matter what the day brings, I walked and got it over with!!  Today and every Thursday for 3 months I am delivering meals to shut ins.  I still drive the bus on Fridays, but in addition to that on Thursdays Uncle John drives the bus and I run the meals in the houses.  The older people are expecting me, so I knock and walk in.  Most have a hard time getting to the door.  It is kind on scary because you never know what to expect with people in their late 80's and 90's.  But, usually they are happy to see me and I certainly are happy to see them.

Everything is coming up roses at my house.  Here are some pictures.

Have a wonderful day, Cindy

How does my garden grow.......

I can not believe it has been almost 2 years since we moved to Kansas.  Last year it was about June when I decided I wanted to plant a garden.  Alisha and Chloe were here and we very quickly threw together a garden in a day.  It was fun and it was a great adventure that ended with a wonderful delicious bounty.  I was kind of surprised it did so well because I had not ever had a garden.  I think part of the reason it turned out so well was because the soil had not been planted before and was not stripped of its nutrients.  Whatever the reason, I was extremely pleased with my first year as a gardener.  The only thing I would change was the plant date.  I planted late and I had a hard time keeping the veggies cool and watered when the temps were 110 !!  So, this year I decided that I was going to give it a try again and add a few new veggies.  The new things I planted this year are butter nut squash, snap beans and pumpkins.  I would love to have lots of pumpkins to decorate with for the fall, but the last couple of years pumpkins have been so expensive, I just couldn't justify buying them for decorating.  I planted 3 different kinds of pumpkins.   I also have planted are zuccini and yellow squash.  I have some extra room in the garden, so I am going to probably add some more veggies like carrots.

What do you think..............................................

I'm Back...................again

It has been awhile since I last posted.  My computer was in the shop and I was trying to work on a notebook or net book.  Not sure what they are called, but I call them slow, slow, slow.  Since I got my computer back, I have been cleaning up my e-mails and I also cleaned up my favorites.  Now I feel organized and I am ready to start blogging with some regularity.  I have some topics whirling around in my head, but today I think I will keep this short and sweet.  Don't want to over do.  Lol.

I have a new addiction I want everyone to know about:

It is Crystal Light Green Tea Raspberry.  Yum Yum

Have a great day,

Cindy

Problems posting pictures

Why oh why do things change right after you get used to them.  I guess it is upgrading or improving, but once     I learn something and it is going well, I don't want it to change.  The latest problem has been posting pictures on my blog posts.  I know how to do it and when I went to do what I always do, it was different.  It did not give me the option on simply browsing and choosing what picture I want to post from my downloaded pictures in my computer.  Now they want me to download onto picasa and post those pictures.  However, there are random pictures of mine on picasa.  I can't find all of them and they are out of folders and not in any kind of order.  I used to upload my new pictures from my camera and use those for my posts.  Well, now I can't.  I did download google chrome and that seems to be more user friendly.  Oh well, it gets so frustrating and so time consuming.  On one of the blogs I read, she wrote about the same problem and several people commented that it was happening to them to, so I figure blogger changed something and we just have to deal with it.  I am going to try to post some pictures of Hubby and the Leisure Center kitchen that he is now running.

Yummy rolls. Notice one is missing..........................

There is a table straight back that holds the sealer.  We fill three compartment trays with entrees and veggies and then seal them so they can be delivered and reheated.  People also get a bag with milk, bread and fruit or dessert.

The huge mixing machine where bread dough is made daily.
That is one big mixer

We have to have orders ready three times a day and there was not one clock in that kitchen.  I mentioned it to the big boss and later that day we had two clocks : )

On the table to the left are the two big binders of recipes for 150 people.

Now I know the time !

Busy, Busy, Busy

I have been crazy busy.  And it is all Hubbys fault.  You see right after Christmas he accepted a job at the Leisure Center.  The reason he decided to do this was because working for his folks during the winter is COLD.  Ha Ha. They have a farm and it is warm in the kitchen of the Leisure Center.  Yes, that is right, the kitchen.  Hubby is the head cook.  We did not know how difficult this job would be.  I have been volunteering to help him.  The Leisure Center prepares approximately 150 meals a day.  They have to have 100 meals ready by 9:30.  These meals are picked up by a driver from Pratt, a town about 30 miles away.  Then they have have to have 25 meals ready to be delivered to people in town.  After that they have to have 25 meals ready to serve to the people who eat at the center.  The center had 3 cooks.  Joy, the head cook.  Carolyn, the assistant cook and a cook who worked 4 hours a day.  Well, in December the main branch of the center (Elder Care) asked Joy who was turning 80 to give her resignation.  She had worked there 25 years!  She did as she was asked and the other 2 cooks quit.  So the center was without cooks.  Hubby put in an application and was hired to be the head cook.  He received 2 days training!  This is the reason I have been getting up at 5am to be out the door by 6 with him.  We are a team and we enjoy working together.  The assistant cook they hired worked 2 days and then was out sick for 2 days.  Lucky for us she likes to do paperwork and boy is there a lot of paperwork that has to be done.  They have to order all the supplies and food they need, to be delivered on Wednesdays.  This all makes for a  busy day and when we get home we are tired.  I miss the days that I had nothing to do but clean the house and make dinner.  Oh yeah and watch Maury to see who the baby daddy is!! I am sure everything will get easier and Hubby will not need my help, but until then my days are spent at the Leisure Center with hubby.

For some reason I am not able to add pictures, so I will work on this and hopefully tomorrow I will figure out what the problem is and post pictures to go with this post.

oops.................

Well, we had a wonderful time with our oldest daughter and our oldest granddaughter.  During the time we were together we were busy.  We spent time with great grandma and great grandpa.  We had Christmas baking to do.  We also prepare the communion for our church for the month of December.  We went to our cousins restaurant and basically stayed busy.  I kept asking Alisha when her flight home was.  I knew she was staying for about 10 days leaving sometime before the first of January 2013.  She told me her flight was at 6:45 on Saturday.  So, Saturday we headed off to Wichita in the morning.  It is a 100 mile trip.  We got there and headed straight to Applebee's where we had a wonderful lunch.  After lunch we went to Hobby Lobby and took advantage of their great sales.  We then dropped the girls off at the airport.  We needed to get back home before dark because that is when the deer come out and it is much safer to drive during the day if possible.  We said our goodbyes gave our hugs and went on our way.  We got about 30 miles from home and received a phone call from our granddaughter.  Since it was about the time the plane should be boarding, I thought they were calling to tell us they were getting on the plane.  Well, I was sure wrong.  The call from our granddaughter informed us that their plane does not leave until Monday.  We dropped them off 2 days early!! So, we turned the car around and went back to pick them up. That was a long way to go for lunch.  Of course we were happy to spend more time with the girls.  We started a puzzle and I needed help, so I was glad they were back to help me.

Another thing that happened when the girls were here was that great grandma wanted Annie to take her car to the shop because it was not running right.  Annie was ahead of us driving great grandmas car and when we got to the highway she turned left instead of right.  I was behind her and just waited for her to figure it out and turn around.  Well, when she realized I was not behind her, she pulled over onto the easement that is just a grass patch.  When she opened the door and looked down she realized the car had started a grass fire and she was looking at flames!! She shut the door to the car and backed it up got out and started stepping the fire out.  Lucky for her two guys stopped and helped her stomp out the flames.  They also told her they had driven past me and I was waiting for her!  What an ordeal.  Glad everyone was safe and we got grandmas car to the shop safe and sound.  Here are some pictures of our time together.

On their way home.  The second time.
Our puzzle.  I have to finish it myself.....
The one ornament we forgot.  There is always one Christmas ornament we forget to pack.  This will be news to Annie as I just found it today.
The day we took the girls to the airport for the second time!!
