My New Favorite Things

I have two new loves. First the Keurig coffee maker. Second Stash tea. I went to a women's ministry luncheon at a girlfriends house. This is where I discovered the Keurig maker. We were all lined up with our coffee cups ready to pick a flavor of coffee and make our individual cup in like a minutes time. I think 4 out of the 9 of us went out shortly after that luncheon and purchased a machine. The machine has a reservoir on the side that you fill with water, it keeps the water hot (I guess) because after you put your choice of what they call K cups (little individual sealed pods of coffee, hot chocolate, tea, white chocolate, flavored coffees) in the coffee maker and push the size of your cup it immediately starts running steaming hot water from the maker into your cup.

I have been on this tea kick, so I put a tea bag in my cup and push the size of the mug and out comes the hot water.

My favorite flavor and make of tea is Stash mango passionfruit herbal tea. I put a squirt of Agave nectar and I am 'relaxin' in style.

These are the little pods. They have so many different brands and flavors. The best selection and price is at Bed, Bath and Beyond.

Excuse me I need to go and relax and enjoy my mug of tea :)

Blog Break

I have been a lazy blogger of late. I have been reading about all the blog buddies that went to the Beth Moore conference and it sounds like it was a great time. It must have been so great to meet people you have been blogging buddies with, but have never met.
I went shopping with my daughter in law on Saturday. I left my house at 7:30 Saturday morning and went to a meeting at our church about our web site. I left there and went to my grandson's baseball game. Then it was out to lunch with hubby. Hubby and son went to work at son's shop while I went with daughter in law to Tai Pan. For those who don't know what Tai Pan is, it is a home decorating store. It must be the size of a Costco. It is huge and has so many cute things. I was looking for something for my coffee table. I looked at shallow bowls with wire balls, but then I saw this cute rustic bird cage.

I really liked it. Then I found a cute bird and daughter in law gave me some fake moss and rocks that she had extra of. This is what I came up with. Hubby said that the bird was too fat for the small cage. He has a point but I still like it. Daughter in law and the kids and myself were at Tai Pan for 3 hours. Looking at everything and trying to decide what we could not live without. I commented that I like some glass jars and then saw a chalk board that was so cute. Much to my surprise when we got back to daughter in laws and unpacked, she had purchased the glass jars and chalk board for me. She put them out on her island and when I came in from loading up my car with my bird cage and other goodies, she said "surprise and happy mother's day." She was so excited she could not wait for mother's day. I was so focused on the grandchildren that I did not notice what she had in her cart. What a nice daughter in law I have :)

I was plenty tired when I got home at 8:30 that night. 13 hours of go, go, go.
My handwriting looks kind of funky on that chalkboard. I will have to work on that.
Have a great day!

How I Met Hubby

I checked Kelly's Korner Show Us Your Life last week to see what was coming up this week. When I saw it was about how you met your hubby, it got me thinking about our story and what I was going to write. It is fun to remember and reminisce about, say, 36 or 37 years ago!!! It does not seem possible. I still think of us as "those kids in the pictures."

When I was 15 my mom got me a job working for Carl' Jr. Mom worked at the commissary and knew the manager at this particular Carl's. Since you need to be 16 (even in the olden days) to work, he agreed to hire me at 15. It was clear across town where I went to high school. After I started working I noticed there was a group of guys that hung around, sometimes until closing. They were a nice group of friends and this was their hang out. I notice Don right away, but he was very shy. One of the guys asked me out and I accepted. This guy and his family lived next door to Don and his family. We went on a couple of dates, nothing serious. One day Don and I were talking and he said " you wouldn't go out with me." I replied "ask me." Well, that let me know he was interested in me so I asked him to go to The Harlem Globetrotters basketball show. My dad had given me tickets to take my brother and a friend. Well, the guy I had dated a couple of times was working so I knew he couldn't go. I told him I was taking my brother to the Globetrotter show, which I did. What I left out of the conversation was that I had asked Don to go with me and my brother. We went and had a great time. The next day Don was washing his souped up Chevy Nova, and the guy I was dating came over to Don's house to hang out and noticed the parking permit to the Harlem Globetrotter's Show. Busted. The guy called me and said," I know you went out with Don, tell me you will never go out with him again." I told him I was sorry but that was something I could not do. I had fallen hook, line and sinker for Don. We were married one month after I turned 18. That was 35 years ago. And believe it or not we are still friends with the guy next door. He is happily married also.

Ask anyone who got married in the 1970's and they will understand the powder blue tux and ruffles. We were in style!!

Three children and 4 grandchildren later we are still in love and happily married. It hasn't alway been easy, but it has been worth it, Don is my best friend.

The girls in the wedding made their own dresses. I wore a mini version on our honeymoon. Don's mom helped me make it. We went to Big Bear for our honeymoon and rented a cabin for a week. Those were the day's my friend.

Rainy Day

Okay, it is all my fault it is raining in beautiful Southern California. No I didn't wash my car to bring on the rain, but I did brag about the hot sunny weather! I am referring Monday's post. It was perfect BBQ weather on Saturday, and that is what we did. I took pictures of my nice clean patio and happy flowers. What a difference a day makes or in this case, what a difference 4 days make. From high 70's to high 40's. What the heck????

My rug is wind blown, and all askew.

The wind blew the pool toys out of the pool.

My pretty tablecloth is a wet, rumbled mess.

And the ground is wet. I am sorry, it is all my fault. From now on I will keep my mouth, or shall I say my typing fingers quiet. Oh, who am I trying to fool, no I won't. The next nice day, it will be all about my happy flowers and pretty patio. Oh well, it is what it is.

Yummy Pizza

I decided to make semi-homemade pizza for dinner. Good decision :)

First you lay out the pizza crust on a cookie sheet.

Lightly brown crust in preheated 400 degree oven for 5 minutes.

Brown sausage in fry pan.

Put it all together with what ever toppings you want. Pop it in the oven again for 12-15 minutes and voila....................yummy dinner :)

Serve with a little salad (keepin it healthy)

Dessert was a light fruit salad. You start with a carton of cool whip and 2 little ready made pudding cups. Mix lightly and add 1 cup mini marshmallows, about a cup of grapes (any color) cut in half, mandarin oranges (drained) and a small can of crushed pineapple. Chill and enjoy.

When my granddaughter Chloe was about 4 years old, I offered her some grapes. She replied, "Actually grandma, I am not a fan of purple grapes." Okay then, there you have it.

Company is Coming

Company is coming for dinner. Light a candle.

Bake a Sour Cream Pound Cake.

Get out the baked potato bag. Have you ever used one of these? I bought it at a craft fair. You wash a baked potato and wrap the potato in a paper towel, put it in the fabric bag, microwave it for 9 minutes and you have the best baked potato ever!

Get the steaks out of the freezer.

Put the chicken in the marinade.

That was our dinner, along with fresh rolls, baked beans and fresh fruit. We ended the night with flavored coffee and a game of cards. The girls lost, so I don't want to talk about it :(

Beautiful Day

The temps. were perfect this weekend in beautiful Southern California. The sun was shining. The plants were in full bloom. The bee's were looking for nectar. Lolli the dog was basking in the sun. It was definitely a weekend to be outdoors as much as you could, enjoying the day that the Lord has made.

Washcloth Travel Bags

This week at Kelly's Korner, Show Us Your Life Friday's, is focusing on teacher gifts. I sew up this cute little washcloth that is turned into a travel bag for travel size products. They would be a great little thank you gift for a teacher, or filled with baby products for a cute baby shower gift. The most difficult part of this project is choosing the perfect washcloth. I chose a striped one for a baby gift that has pastel stripes. The great thing about that one is you can follow the stripes with the sewing machine for straight lines. White washcloths are great because they look so clean. Any color ribbon looks great with a white washcloth. You can choose ribbon, or rope, or cording or binding as your tie. The first seam is done inside out and that is when you sew your ribbon to one side. After that you turn the washcloth to the right side and decide how far you want to make the seams. You can custom your washcloth for the width of the products you choose. Here are several pictures showing the making of the project. Daughter Melissa took the picture of my hands sewing the project on my sewing machine. She thought she would be funny and take a picture of herself in the mirror. The joke is on her because it is such a funny picture, I decided to add that to my post. Now it is on the "web" for all the world to see. I hope you enjoy the picture as much as I enjoyed seeing it when I downloaded my pictures.
